How long does it take to build a pool?

  • If you have a pool built in fall or winter, expect three to six weeks, excluding weekends. Add two weeks or more if the pool is an elaborate project. In spring and summer, when demand is high and crews are busy, it will require additional time. (All the above weather permitting.)

How long should the filter pump stay on each day?

  • 10-12 hours a day during the summer months. If you are experiencing any water quality problems, first check your chemistry, then run your pump 24 hours a day until the water clears up.

How do I know if the water loss from my pool is from evaporation or a leak?

  • Under normal conditions during the swimming season, your pool water level will drop about 1/4-1/2 inch per day due to evaporation and water splashing. To test for a leak: Using a pail, draw a line about 1" from the top with a permanent marker. Fill the bucket to the line with water and set the bucket in the pool on the top step. Accurately mark the pool water level on the outside of the bucket, or put a piece of black tape on the leg of your pool ladder. If the water loss from the pool is greater than the water loss from the bucket, then your pool is leaking.

How much should I invest?

  • If you are adding a pool to an existing home, you may have enough equity in the home to finance the pool. The pool itself is considered an improvement. This is often an easy way to get a substantial loan to build the pool you really want. Check other loan options available to you, and compare terms, and interest rates for the best value.
  • Keep in mind that this is an investment in your home. A well designed and landscaped pool will also make your home much more attractive to potential buyers.

Should I include a spa?

  • Many new pool owners include a spa in their pool designs to enjoy both a vigorous swim and a relaxing and soothing hot water soak. Incorporating a spa into the pool design is less expensive than installing one separately or adding a spa to a pool at a later date. Spas are very practical, take little space and enhance both the appearance held 400-800 gallons of water. They are normally heated to 104 degrees Fahrenheit using either electric power or natural gas.

What size and shape is best for me?

  • It is not difficult to design a multi-purpose pool that satisfies most family interests. Size is limited only by available space, your budget, and how large a pool you are willing to maintain.
  • In sizing a pool, plan adequate space for decking. Additional deck space is often added at one end or side to accommodate pool furniture for lounging or swimming.
  • A pool should fit comfortably into the total environment. If you have an exceptionally large yard or one that slopes an average size pool can be blended in by using walls, planters, hedges, and other landscaping methods. If your yard is limited, a properly sized pool can also be designed to take advantage of available space.
  • Free form shaped pools can be custom fitted to odd shaped lots while maintaining cosmetic appeal.
  • Present construction methods allow for almost any shape pool to be built. An experience pool builder will be able to provide design assistance and technical advice when selecting proper size and shape.
